Bio
Russ Martin (he/they) is a writer, editor and scholar. They have written about drag for Flare, FASHION, Xtra, and numerous other popular publications. Martin’s academic research has been published in Canadian Theatre Review, RuPedagogies of Realness: Essays on Teaching and Learning with RuPaul’s Drag Race and the forthcoming volume Interdisciplinary Essays on Monsters and the Monstrous. Their 2020 ethnography, published as an MA thesis, considers the impact of RuPaul’s Drag Race on the Toronto drag scene. Martin is deeply embedded in the community they study as a drag producer and artistic collaborator who works to empower a diverse array of drag artists. They are an instructor at Toronto Metropolitan University and live in Toronto with their chihuahua, Odee.
